Lonely Room

“Lonely Room” is about a man who loses the love of his life to someone else—and knows she is better off. He doesn’t blame her. He doesn’t blame the man she found. By the time he understands what he had, he also understands what he put her through. She offered him love. He gave her loneliness.

The room didn’t become lonely when she left. It was lonely while she was still there.

Now he has to live with that truth. His final act of love is accepting that the arms holding her now may give her the peace he never did.

Producer Anson Funderburgh called this song “tragic, yet beautiful.”

The tragedy is that he understands too late.

The beauty is that he understands well enough to let her go.
